Card Printer Supply Information
Card Types
Monochrome printers can print on cards made of ABS, PVC or polyester material. Color printers can print on cards made of PVC or polyester material. Cards must be clean and have a flat, polished surface.
PVC cards provide high image quality, medium flexibility and temperature durability. Durability for a 30 mil thick card is a 24 month estimated card life with 3,000 duty cycles. Applications for PVC cards are cards with moderate usage and controlled environments such as transit passes, visitor badges, identification cards and loyalty cards.
Polyester based cards provide high flexibility and temperature durability making them ideal for abrasive, high wear applications with prolonged card life. Estimated card life for a 30 mil thick card is 48 months with 5,000 duty cycles. Polyester based cards are used in application environments that are uncontrolled and require high usage such as time and attendance, access control, equipment check-out and multi-application university ID cards.
Monochrome Resin Ribbon
This ribbon is intended for applications where fast, low cost, monochrome cards with readable bar codes are required, but where high image quality is not necessary.
Monochrome Dye Sublimation Ribbon + Clear Overlay
This ribbon is for applications where fast, low cost, monochrome cards with high quality continuous tone images are required.
Bar codes printed with dye sublimation black can only be read by visible light scanners.
Black Monochrome Resin Ribbon + Clear Overlay
This ribbon is for applications where fast, low cost monochrome cards with readable bar codes are required.
5 Panel Ribbon
Three Color Dye Sublimation Ribbon + Resin Black Panel + Clear Overlay, also known as YMCKO or full color plus overlay.
This ribbon is for applications which require full color cards with a protective overlay. Bar codes printed with resin black panel can be read by both infrared and visible light scanners.
6 Panel Ribbon
Three Color Dye Sublimation Ribbon + Two Resin Black Panels + Clear Overlay, also known as YMCKOK or full color with 2 black panels.
This ribbon is for applications where efficient two sided printing is required and black resin panels are required for the front and back of the card. Full color objects can be printed on the front of a card and monochrome black resin objects can be printed on the front or back. Bar codes printed with resin black can be read by both infrared and visible light scanners.
Lamination Ribbon
PolyGuard lamination material is 1 mil thick and is a secure, tamper resistant overlaminate.
New lamination techniques produce cards that meet ISO standards for curling. Cards overlayed with lamination are flat and can be used in any magnetic card reader. Lamination significantly increases card durability and life span.
